POSITION INFORMATION

Role Summary The Manager, Flight Training is responsible for the design and delivery of quality, compliant training for pilots at Horizon Air. This role manages the flight training (simulator) design and delivery team and the administration of all pilot qualification flight training events.

Scope & Complexity This leadership role manages flight training activities for Horizon Air.

Key Duties

  • Manages the relationship with simulator vendor, and determines if simulator modifications are required.

  • Initiates communication of engineering data to respective simulator owner and operators.

  • Develops simulator training scenarios with Fleet Captain, Chief Check Pilot, and Chief Instructor that illustrate and reinforce annual training emphasis items.

  • Directly supervises Flight Instructors when assigned to flight training duties.

  • Audits selected flight simulator events to ensure qualified Flight Instructors are sufficiently available and trained for ground and simulator training functions.

  • Conducts flight training to maintain event currency and knowledge of flight training programs.

  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of various Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) curriculum and supporting courseware.

  • Ensures all flight training event presentation material and briefing guides are current and appropriate for the training medium.

  • Serves as a flight training and simulator subject matter expert (SME) for the AQP Manager.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills Required

  • A minimum of 3 years of Part-121 line pilot experience.

  • A minimum of 3 years in a people leadership position.

  • A minimum of 2 years of flight training experience.

  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Parts 61, 91, and 121, including Subpart Y (Advanced Qualification Program).

  • Familiarity with voluntary safety programs (e.g., LOSA, FOQA, ASAP).

  • Effective team leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team and to set individual and team goals.

  • Excels at understanding and making decisions on complex regulatory and personnel issues.

  • Effective communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and editing skills to develop technical documents and manuals.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • High-School diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • A Bachelor's degree.

  • ATP and either an E175 or DHC8 Type rating.

  • A minimum of 2 years of training department supervisory/management experience.
