YOUR ROLE

Role Summary

The Financial Analyst II is responsible for developing solutions to reduce costs, improve productivity, and drive growth at Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations to improve cost performance.

Scope & Complexity

This position supports strategic and complex financial planning and analysis activities for Horizon Air.

Key Duties

  • Supports the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including capital budgeting and forecasting, for Horizon divisions with a focus on timeliness, accuracy, and continuous process improvement

  • Performs monthly accounting/financial close and forecasting process, as well as reviews monthly financial performance with each of the division and senior Finance leaders to identify key variances, trends, and potential issues that may materially impact financial performance.

  • Drives the ownership of cost performance across the division including identifying opportunities for improvement and leading development of actions plans to achieve desired cost savings and/or productivity improvement

  • With limited direction supports the Director, FP&A, Customer Services and the rest of the FP&A team, develops and maintains financial and productivity reporting/tracking regarding strategic initiatives and overall company objectives to drive better business understanding/insights, performance oversight, and accountability.

  • Engages cross-divisionally with division leaders as well as Alaska Airlines Finance/Accounting teams to know and understand mutual dependencies/requirements and to ensure that division financial priorities and objectives support the overall company goals and objectives.

  • Takes initiative to develop and increase usage of Tableau and other planning/analytical tools to automate manual processes and provide actionable financial data and metrics to leaders across the company

  • Stays abreast of industry trends and competitive performance and uses that information to generate ideas and drive improvements in financial performance.

Job-Specific Skills, Experience and Education

Required

  • 2 years finance or a related analytical experience

  • Bachelor's Degree with a focus in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree..

  • Must be a self-starter, willingly to take initiative, accept responsibility, able to analyze complex data and summarize in a concise manner, and make meaningful, timely business recommendations to execute business improvements.

  • High level of technical aptitude in utilizing business information tools for analysis and reporting.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access), especially with strong command of Excel.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • A strong working knowledge of/experience with key financial tools such as NPV, ROIC, cash flow, activity based costing, accounting fundamentals, etc.

  • Willingness to travel on occasion for meetings and other events.

Preferred

  • 2 years of financial planning & analysis experience.

  • 2 years of experience working in the airline industry or a related field.

  • Masters Degree in business administration, finance, economics, math, or statistics and/or Professional certification (CPA/CMA/Qualified Accounting certificate).

  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Tableau, Cognos TM1, Brio, or related query tools experience.
